Journalists from 10 different countries in South and Central America (plus Cuba) were in Tucson to visit those in different areas of journalism. Fortunately Tucson has great resources with a wide variety of professionals willing to share their time and knowledge with the visitors.
Here the group met with Bobby Rich and Greg Curtis Wakefield met with the group and discussed podcasting. Some of the visitors are podcasters and others were interested in how to go about it so the discussion was both stimulating and informative with lots of questions.
They also had the opportunity to visit the Pascua Yaqui radio station, KYPT with General Manager Hector Youtsey. This small station is the perfect venue for some of the visitors who come from communities that are not metropolitan but have a smaller radius to broadcast to.
The group also met with Mary Rittmann from Visit Tucson and Jill Jordan Spitz, former editor for the Arizona Daily Star. There were other important meetings to, Tim Steller, the Mexican Consulate and more but here are the pictures of Mary and Jill’s presentations.
Jill Jordan Spitz discussing the changing times in print media.
Mary Rittmann from Visit Tucson sharing the wonderful things Tucson has to offer and showing how social media plays a part in promoting the community.
The group went to class (kinda) with Professor Greg Watson at Pima Community College to learn about Chat GPT and how it could assist them with their work. He also explained the shortcomings of depending to much on the program, that it still needs the editorial touch! The group was so impressed with all they learned they told him to come to Venezuela and teach it to more but since that is on the Department of State no travel list that won’t be happening anytime soon.
Delightful group, fun, bright and willing to learn and share. Truly what the IVLP program is all about!
