Wow, what a change from the “old” consulate! I always referred to the old one as a bunker, it felt like you were in a bunker when you entered the former consulate. Now, It is a beautiful building with windows! One of the staff even said to come back and visit so she can show me her office with windows!
The construction took years to complete, Chris Teal was the Consul General at the beginning of the construction. Following Chris Teal as Consul was Chad Cummins (former board member for Citizen Diplomacy Alliance), Laura Biedebach and now Michelle Ward. Each one had input and challenges with the construction but it is now done and open.
Tonight, August 7, 2025, the Consulate celebrated 249th Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America with a reception and tour of the facility. There were many people there, both from the US and from Mexico.

and Pat and Greg Watson with the Consul General.

It was great to see friends again and to make some new ones. We look forward to working with them in the future.
Thanks to Consul Ward for the invitation (and arranging the ride back to the border). We had a tour of the city with the taxi driver on the way to the consulate, he didn’t know where it was (even with the address!) but we finally got there but the Consul said she would arrange for us to have a ride back to the border to avoid another tour!
May they have many years of diplomacy in the new consulate!
