Developing Arabic Language Media in Israel

It was a buy couple of days for the media visitors that got to spend time with some of the outstanding presenters that Citizen Diplomacy Alliance has the privilege of working with for programming.

The Arizona School of Journalism once again hosted the group wit Jeannine Relly, Professor, Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Inclusion took the time out her day to arrange for her and other professors to meet with the group and discuss the challenges faced by up coming journalists and how they assist in preparing their students for those challenges.

Tim Steller, Arizona Daily Star, is always a favorite of media group since he tells it like it is. Shares his experiences, his knowledge and advice. Known for his in depth reporting and fact checking Tim is not only a star reporter but a valued asset to CDA.

Then out to KPTY Radio. This station is run by the Paqua Yaqui tribe for information and entertainment for the tribal members. Hector Youtsey, General Manager, was the 2024 Program of the Year Award winner. Hectors willingness to share the history and story and broadcast information with the visitors is always welcome. Letting visitors know that they too can have a station regardless of how small their country is. KPTY is run primarily by volunteers, Hector is the only paid employee and yet the station is on air nearly every day (some holidays are off air).

The visitors were home hosted by members of CDA, welcomed into their homes with good food and conversations flowing. Both the members and the visitors enjoy these experiences and build friendships that often last for years to come.

KVOA TV is another one of the favorite stops for visitors with a tour of the station and often an opportunity to visit with broadcast staff.

The Pima County Sheriff’s office provides an overview of what they do and the territory they cover. A presentation by the K-9 unit was a highlight of the visit.

After a super busy couple of days the visitors were off to Chicago for their next stop.
